Who we are
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic, fraternal, charitable organization. It was founded March 29, 1882, by Father Michael J. McGivney. For more historical and general information on the Knights, see Knights of Columbus Supreme website
At American Martyrs Church in Oakland Gardens, New York, the American Martyrs Father John J. Murray council , #14666, was formed on
November 13, 2008. Forty-one Catholic men comprise the group of charter members. Long time knight, the Reverend Father Frank Schwarz, was the force behind the creation of our council. He recognized the opportunity and need for the men of the parish to share their time and talents, to help the parish, the community and beyond. We had no more steadfast supporter than he. Father Frank was the Pastor of American Martyrs Church and served as our council's chaplain from day one of our council's existence until his transfer to another parish.
Our parish is blessed to have another supportive pastor who is also a knight , our current Chaplain, the Reverend Father Peter Rayder.
